NYBD Fans Elect Alomar and Blyleven
By Mike Silva ~ January 6th, 2010. Filed under: Hall of Fame.
In a very unscientific poll, NYBD readers elected Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven to the Hall of Fame.
No other got the necessary support (75%) needed to gain election. Both Barry Larkin and Tim Raines had strong showings with around 70% support, Edgar Martinez was in the low sixties, while Mark McGwire, Dawson, and Trammell were under 50%. Jack Morris had a very poor showing in the low thirties. The one player that had a strong showing, and it shouldn’t be a surprise, was Don Mattingly, garnering about 40% of the vote.
I have some ideas to get a more accurate count for next year, but I am confident in saying only Blyleven and Alomar get “the call” from NYBD.
The write in candidates included Pete Rose, Buck O’Neil, Keith Hernandez, Lee Smith, and Robin Ventura.
